Legal & General Property history.

Legal & General Property (LGP) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Legal & General Investment Management and is part of the Legal & General Group. Since the early 1970's, LGP has managed property investment funds for institutional and private investors, investing in UK commercial property.

Balanced Funds

One of the earliest of these funds was the Managed Fund, which provides UK pension schemes with a means to invest in a diversified portfolio on a pooled basis. Unit linked life and pension funds for individual investors were launched in the late 1970's. These are still available today and are among the biggest funds of their type. More recently, in 2006, Legal & General launched the Legal & General UK Property Unit Trust. This is an authorised property unit trust specifically designed for the small investor looking to obtain diversified exposure to the UK commercial property market.

The Legal & General Life Fund remains one of the largest of it’s type in the UK, and our segregated fund services continuing to provide bespoke solutions to meet individual clients property risk and return requirements.

In 2010 we launched two new funds. The Legal & General UK Property Income Fund which provides the opportunity to invest in an income focused, diversified portfolio of commercial property, is operated through an innovative and rigorous risk management framework.

The LPI Income Property Fund provides Defined Benefit Pensions Schemes with an alternative way to invest in commercial property with a secure source of income, primarily government backed, all with inflation linkage.

In 2011, we launched the hybrid property fund, providing Defined Benefit pensions schemes with an innovative blend of global and UK property exposure with enhanced liquidity.

Sector Specialists

We also have a long history in the specialist arena. In 1997 we launched the Industrial Property Investment Fund (IPIF), which was one of the first sector specialist funds for institutional investors. Such funds have since become an increasingly important part of the market. LGP has remained in the vanguard of this trend and now operates 10 specialist funds for institutional investors.
