Legal & General appoints Daniel Godfrey to Independent Governance Committee

Daniel is co-founder of The People’s Trust. He was chief executive of the Investment Association between 2012 and 2015, where he was responsible for a team of 60 and oversaw significant growth in the voice of the organisation in governance and stewardship.

The IGC oversees the workplace and mature savings pension schemes operated by Legal & General and acts in the interest of members. Legal & General manages £18.8bn in such schemes.1

Dermot Courtier, Chairman of the IGC, commented: "In light of our increased focus on governance and value for members, we are pleased to welcome Daniel to the IGC. He brings a wealth of professional expertise that strengthens the team.

"The number of Legal & General’s schemes and members is increasing daily as a result of autoenrolment and organic growth, and the IGC needs robust processes in place to ensure we not only meet but exceed our statutory obligations and so achieve the best-value outcomes for contract-based scheme members."

Emma Douglas, Head of DC at Legal & General Investment Management, added: "Good governance is crucial for the IGC. Daniel is a well-known and well-respected industry figure, and his knowledge and experience will bring new strengths and fresh perspectives to an already impressive team."

Daniel replaces Tony Filbin, who stepped down from the IGC in August 2017.
