Effecting positive change to deliver long-term, sustainable value
What is investment stewardship?
Investment stewardship means the responsible oversight of capital that we allocate on behalf of our clients, in order to generate sustainable benefits for the economy, the environment and society.
This involves engaging with the companies in which we invest, to address risks and opportunities – both company-specific and market-wide.
At the same time, the team works with regulators, policy makers and our industry peers to tackle systemic issues.
Our Investment Stewardship team exercises voting rights globally, across LGIM’s active and index funds, holding companies to account on the issues that matter most to our clients. These range from climate change to board independence and diversity.
Investment stewardship and responsible investing
Across both public and private assets, we have established a fully integrated framework for responsible investing to strengthen long-term returns and raise market standards. This is based on investment stewardship with impact and collaborative, active research across asset classes. Learn more about our approach to responsible investing here.

Team
Our award-winning Investment Stewardship team spearheads much of LGIM’s activity on environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues.
The team of 16 professionals, who have an average of 12 years’ experience, is headed by our Director of Investment Stewardship, Sacha Sadan.*
Sacha is a member of the LGIM Board and reports directly to LGIM’s CEO, Michelle Scrimgeour. Two independent non-executive directors on LGIM’s board have the specific responsibility of overseeing the team’s activities and ensuring conflicts are appropriately managed.
We believe this independent reporting line allows the team to manage internal conflicts, form views and take decisions in the long-term interests of all clients.
