Local authorities

LGIM is the largest manager of Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) mandates in the UK (Source: Pension Funds Performance Guide, December 2019) managing GBP 65 billion / EUR 73 billion / CHF 79 billion* of assets. We believe that our knowledge of the specific challenges facing this sector and our ability to offer investment solutions that meet these, forms the foundation for successful relationships with our clients in this sector.

LGPS Intelligence

In addition to a wide range of investment solutions, we aim to help public sector clients understand and position themselves to address market changes. Our quarterly update LGPS Intelligence focuses on topics of particular relevance to public sector clients. Indeed, we actively encourage our clients to suggest subjects that they would like more clarity on. To make a suggestion please contact James Sparshott

Corporate governance

With investment comes responsibility and LGIM believes that corporate governance is an integral part of what we can offer clients. We take a rigorous approach to ensuring that long-term, sustainable value is created for our clients’ investments.

We believe that being open about our corporate governance principles helps clients to understand the important role it plays in investment.  For example, the Local Authority Pension Fund forum (LAPFF) endorsed our efforts to promote diversity amongst FTSE 100 companies.

Active fixed income

Active fixed income is a core activity at LGIM and one where we have enjoyed considerable success - not just in the performance of our funds but also in the number of clients now entrusting us with their assets.

The same thematic investment process is used across our entire active fixed income product range. It combines the high quality inputs from the macroeconomic and credit strategists, with detailed fundamental analysis to identify investment themes.

Our clients benefit from significant economies of scale. However, we believe there is more to index fund management than simply following an index. We complement our funds with a range of services such as currency hedging, transition management, asset allocation and trigger monitoring.

Multi-asset funds provide investors with a diversified exposure to a broad range of markets. By investing in a range of asset classes, countries, sectors and currencies, investors can avoid having a concentrated exposure to any one type of asset or driver of returns.

We aim to create portfolios that can perform through a variety of market conditions and that withstand or reduce the impact of negative market events, as we recognise that investors prefer a smoother ride to achieving their goals

Real Assets

LGIM Real Assets manages £36.3 billion* across real estate, infrastructure and corporate debt. Our dedicated real assets investment professionals are focused on getting the best outcomes for all of our partners, be they occupiers, consumers, companies or investors.

We offer flexible models that work around public sector requirements. For example, the Income Partnership model developed as a result of active engagement with our public sector clients who needed to unlock vital private sector investment into capital dependent projects such as hospitals, schools, libraries, and social/affordable housing.

Risk-aware solutions

We offer solutions that look to meet the specific requirements of individual funds and investment pools, whether that be seeking growth, paying pensions or managing risk.

We offer our solutions via a diverse suite of investment strategies and dedicated transition services.

A key example of the risk-aware solutions we offer LGPS funds are our equity protection strategies, which aim to provide a degree of protection if equities fall.

"We believe in clear and transparent reporting. LGIM is delighted to commit to the LGPS Code of Transparency and support our LGPS clients."
